About

Hi there! I'm Matthew Sandell. I've had a passion for statistics and analytics for over 5 years. My journey began with an early interest in federal fiscal policy. This led me to double-majoring in Data Analytics and Economics, where I am in my senior year.

I've taken great care with my work to always approach a project with a fundamental question - what are we trying to discover? This simple question has helped guide me through numerous analytics projects where I've presented my process and conclusion in a clear and concise way to technical and layman audiences. My approach to analytics is now carrying into my career as a Data Intern at the Institute for Public Policy and Economic Analysis in Spokane, Washington.

Currently, I'm living in Cheney, Washington while I finish the last two quarters of my degrees. Outside of classes and working, I enjoy staying active offline with rock climbing, working out in the gym, and artwork.

I've had the opportunity to work on some great projects and utilize a multitude of methods.

My experience is largely with the following:

  • Coding for Statistics (Proficient in R, experience with Python)
  • Dialects of SQL across software - SSMS, Oracle, Mongo, MySQL
  • Statistics applications - Minitab and SAS
  • Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access
  • Machine Learning - Linear and Logistic Regression, Regression Trees, Bagging, Random Forests, GBM, Discriminant Analysis (Linear and Quadratic), Naive Bayes
  • Dimension Reductionality - PCA and Sparse PCA, Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis
  • Optimization - Linear and Non-Linear using Excel Solver Table
